Meet the Team

Charlotte has an extensive background in the outdoors. She was raised on a farm and has been teaching and working outdoors since the age of 18. Charlotte started her career as an Army Cadet, one of the first female cadets in Cornwall and one of the youngest instructors. She was commissioned at the age of 22, finally retiring as a Captain at 29. During this time, Charlotte was also employed in youth work and developed the travel bug, spending time touring around Israel, Egypt and Costa Rica. Charlotte is happiest when outside and enabling others to adventure in the great outdoors, mainly around Cornwall and Devon. She specialises in working with young people and adult with autism and other special educational needs and abilities.

Cathy is a law lecturer with a love for nature that developed when she was growing up in rural Herefordshire. After taking time to develop her career and to raise a family, she has rediscovered this passion. This has coincided with a growing love of long-distance walking and ultra-running, which has led to events on many of our national trails. She has walked around the Isle of Wight and taken part in ultra-distance challenges on the Ridgeway, the South Downs Way, and the Cotswold Way. Cathy also enjoys travelling; her favourite place on earth is the Laugavegur Trail in Iceland. The Jurassic Coast and the South West Coast Path are her favourite haunts for running, yomping with friends, and photography.

Tracy is one of our wonderful volunteer Directors, who have been invited to join the team for the diverse range of skills they bring, along with the ability to understand and work with a diverse range of young people. Tracy has spent decades as a youth worker and college lecturer, she is an inspiration to so many young people and the mum to two young boys. Tracy has been supporting The Outdoor Place since the beginning and has an amazing passion. She has attended so many of the adventure days and residential courses, and has a very active role within the team.

Josh joined as a ‘volunteer team member’ in September 2019 after his amazing work with Charlotte at the college as volunteer support staff. Josh was a member of the original Foundation Studies DofE team, completing his Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. A truly inspirational young man who teaches us so much every day. It is always good to see the world through Josh’s eyes and helps us develop the adventure days from a greater perspective.

Frazer is also a ‘volunteer team member’ and followed a similar journey through his DofE award as Josh, both completing their expeditions together. Frazer has also been volunteering once a week with Hawkshead at Truro since September 2019, completing his work experience adventure. Frazer has been learning the various skills required within retail, along with gaining valuable experience within the work environment. His confidence, communication and understanding of others has certainly prospered through his opportunity. Frazer is a great member of the team and is always willing to let us know when we haven’t been clear enough with instructions. This is invaluable for the development of adventure days and programmes for all.
